It’s been a while, but Team Brad Jacobs returned to the ice on Friday and opened up the 2021-22 curling season with a victory.
Competing in the Oakville Labour Day Classic, the Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, opened up the event Friday evening with a 6-5 win over Robert Desjardins of Saguenay, Que.
After the teams traded singles in the opening two ends, the Jacobs rink took the lead with one in the third end before stealing one more in the third to take a 3-1 lead.
Desjardins tied the game with a pair in the fifth before Jacobs took the lead for good with three in the sixth.
The Desjardins rink cut the lead to 6-4 with a single in the seventh before wrapping up the scoring with a steal of one in the eighth end.
Jacobs returns to action on Saturday with a pair of games, beginning in the morning draw of the four-day event against Jed Brundidge of East St. Paul, Minn.
The Jacobs rink will finish day two in the evening draw against Karsten Sturmay of Edmonton.
