After a winless start to the Ashley Homestore Curling Classic on Friday in Penticton, B.C., Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre locally picked up a pair of victories on Saturday.

The victories move the Jacobs rink to 2-2 at the four-day event.

The Jacobs rink opened the day with a 7-2 win over Jason Montgomery of Victoria, B.C. in six ends in the morning draw.

After scoring a single in the opening end, the Jacobs rink took a 3-0 lead thanks to a steal of two in the second end.

Montgomery got on the board with a pair in the fourth end before Jacobs extended the lead further with three in the fifth and capping the win off with a steal of one in the sixth end as the Sault-based team picked up its first win of the tournament.

In the afternoon draw against Paul Cseke of Kelowna, B.C., Jacobs capped off the day with another victory, beating Cseke 5-2.

The two teams traded singles in the opening two ends with Jacobs opening the scoring with the hammer in the opening end before Cseke got on the board with a single of his own in the second end.

Jacobs followed it up by taking the lead with a single in the third end before extending the lead to 3-1 with a steal of one in the fourth end.

After Cseke cut Jacobs’ lead to 3-2 with a single in the fifth end, the Jacobs rink sealed the win with a pair in the sixth end.

The Jacobs rink will wrap up round robin action on Sunday morning against Cameron de Jong of Victoria, B.C.
