Studio Dance Arts wins top award in North Bay competition

Sault studio's intermediate and senior dancers shine in second challenge of season

The Sault’s Studio Dance Arts was crowned Top Studio after recently competing in its second competition of the season at the KARV Dance Challenge in North Bay on May 6 and 7.

Their Intermediate/Senior Company dancers gave passionate performances in their group and solo routines, the studio said in a news release.

SDA received the following overall awards:

Session Awards – As chosen by the judges during each awards ceremony:

  • Session Choreography Award – STAND OUT (Tap Group) – Choreographer Mike Glenney
  • Session Choreography Award – BIG TIME (Jazz Group) – Choreographer Kristin DeAmorim
  • Session Choreography Award – EVERGREEN (Lyrical Group) – Choreographer Linda Garneau
  • Session Entertainment Award – TAKE IT ALL (Jazz Group)
  • Session Entertainment Award – STUFF LIKE THAT THERE (Jazz Group)
  • Session Entertainment Award – Mitchel Hopf (Contemporary Solo)

  • 2nd Overall       Intermediate Solos     Teija Lappalainen       
  • 4th Overall       Intermediate Solos     Aliyah Flammia

TOP CHOREOGRAPHY AWARD (entire event) – THAT’S LIFE (Contemporary) – Emily Spearing

OVERALL HIGH SCORE (entire event) – HEROES (Lyrical Group) – Score 96.5

GENRE AWARDS – These were awarded to the highest scoring routines of the competition in each dance style. Studio Dance Arts won the following:

  • Highest Scoring BALLET – NIGHT AT THE BALLET           
  • Highest Scoring JAZZ – STUFF LIKE THAT THERE
  • Highest Scoring LYRICAL – HEROES                      
  • Highest Scoring CONTEMPORARY – YOU WANT IT DARKER
  • Highest Scoring TAP – Kirsten Dubien – SOLO
  • Highest Scoring MUSICAL THEATRE – SELFIE

PLATINUM CLUB MEMBERS – During the competition, Studio Dance Arts gained entry into KARV Dance Challenge’s Platinum Club for studios who have 10 routines all scoring an average of 95 or higher.

DANCE-OFF & TOP STUDIO – At the end of the event, the highest scoring 12 years and under and highest scoring 13 years and over teams re-compete at the Dance-Off.
