Steelers fall in Oshawa

The Sault Steelers dropped a tight game in Oshawa on Saturday night in Northern Football Conference action. The Oshawa Hawkeyes built a 10-3 lead at the half and survived the final 30 minutes for a 19-17 victory over the Steelers.

The Sault Steelers dropped a tight game in Oshawa on Saturday night in Northern Football Conference action.

The Oshawa Hawkeyes built a 10-3 lead at the half and survived the final 30 minutes for a 19-17 victory over the Steelers.

The Steelers led 3-0 after the first quarter and then rallied to tie the score at 10-10 heading into the final quarter.

Josh Gauthier scored two touchdowns for the Steelers while rushing for 135 yards on 25 carries. Quarterback Travis McLean completed 12 of 19 passes for 79 yards.

Meanwhile, Hawkeyes quarterback Chris Foster torched the Steelers for 306 yards passing and two touchdowns while completing 16 of 35 passes.

With the loss, the Steelers fall to 4-2 on the year with two games remaining in the regular season.

Next Saturday, the Steelers host the Milton Marauders at 7 p.m. at Rocky DiPietro Field before closing the schedule in Sarnia on July 28.

The NFC playoffs, featuring the top eight teams in the loop, begin on August 4.
