The Sault Steelers took advantage of their stable of big play receivers in a romp over the Sudbury Spartans on Saturday night.

Steelers quarterback Travis McLean threw for 333 yards and five touchdowns as the Steelers claimed a 37-7 win in front of the home crowd at Rocky DiPietro Field.

The victory improves the Steelers to 5-1 in the Northern Football Conference with their final regular season home game scheduled for next Saturday at 7 p.m. against the Toronto Raiders at DiPietro Field.

In all, McLean completed 18 of 26 passes while also tossing up three interceptions.

Kyle Gauthier opened the scoring with a 56 yard catch and run touchdown. Following a Tyler Belanger two point convert run and a single by Gauthier on the ensuing kickoff, the Steelers found themselves with a 9-0 lead 5:21 into the game.

Noah Rushon then caught a 32 yard touchdown pass to give the locals a 16-7 lead at the half. Stephen Gravel scored Sudbury's lone major on a one yard run.

In the second half, Matt Premo caught a 23 yard touchdown, Gauthier hauled in another from 16 yards out and Ron Kelly capped the scoring with a 12 yard touchdown reception.

Rushon led all receivers with five catches for 111 yards while Gauthier caught four passes for 95 yards and Kelly four for 52 yards.

Running back Chris Tulloch, who still plays high school football, filled in well for the suspended Josh Gauthier and ran for 79 yards on 11 carries. Toby Traveson made his return to the Steelers back field and carried five times for 17 yards.

Defensively, the Steelers held the Spartans to 133 yards of total offense and sacked quarterback Reg Bonin four times.

Brandon Lewis recorded five tackles, a sack and forced a fumble recovered by Darrick Giosa while Russ Moyle added 5.5 tackles and Jason Giosa four. Wade Kraft made two interceptions while Belanger and Matt Gauthier picked off one pass each.
