One of the city's best high school rivalries will be renewed on Saturday night, this time with championship bragging rights on the line.
The St. Basil Saints and St. Mary's Knights will meet for the High School Girls Basketball League City Championship in both the junior and senior divisions after both schools emerged victorious in semi-final action on Friday.
The venue for the championship games has been determined as Korah will host both games beginning at 6 p.m. with the junior contest followed by the senior final at 7:30 p.m.
Both teams finished one and two in the standings in each division.
St. Basil finished the senior season with a perfect 12-0 record while St. Mary's finished right behind at 9-3. St. Mary's won the junior league championship with an 11-1 record while St. Basil trailed at 9-3.
Rescheduled from Thursday, the semi-finals were held on Friday afternoon with St. Basil scoring a 51-22 win over Bawating in senior and a 27-23 win over Korah in junior. St. Mary's defeated Korah 38-31 in senior and Mount St. Joseph College 47-37 in junior.
Rachel Cobean scored 12 points while Samantha Rainone and Aine Coccimiglio scored 10 each to led the senior Saints to the win. Stephanie Thayer with nine and Scarlett Bordin with seven replied for Bawating.
In junior, Adrianna Bruni and Amanda Vernelli scored 10 points each to pace St. Basil. Kaitlyn Train scored eight and Sara Fortais five for Korah.
Jennifer Sweezy scored 10 points while Jessica Sicoly and Elise Currier added nine each to lead the Knights in senior. Lauren Podolski replied with 14 points for Korah.
Kathleen Thorburn led the junior Knights with 12 points while Kira Favaro added 11. Vanessa Chaimbrone scored 14 for the Mount.
