Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club registered over 30 skiers for Ontario Cup race #3 at North Bay Nordic this past weekend.
Skiers aged 8-18 made up the energetic contingent, eager to test their training and stamina against friends and competitors from across the province.
Highlights of the weekend include:
- Skiers aged 8-14 participated in a unique double race format, skiing both a skate technique and classic technique race in the same day. Race organizers compressed the race weekend into one day to enable younger athletes to round out their competition before the arrival of polar temperatures Sunday.
- Races continued in the deep freeze on Sunday for U16 and U18 athletes, with notable podium finishes despite the cold.
Soo Finnish Nordic earned a total of 8 podium finishes this weekend:
- Isla Sinclair placed second in the U8 girls interval start free technique and first in the mass start classic races.
- Brody Wilson placed third in the U12 boys interval start free technique
- Gwendolyn Tchir placed first in both the U12 girls interval start free technique and mass start classic races.
- Jasper Tchir placed third in both the U16 boys interval start free technique race and the multistage (overall), which considers results of both the free and classic technique races.
- Kate De Beer placed second in the U18 girls pursuit classic race.
