The Searchmont Ski Runners are into the second day of competition at the week long 2004 Mars K2 Provincial Juvenile Championships in Collingwood.
The competition, which is open to the top 13 and 14 year-old skiers in Ontario, began on Sunday with the Giant Slalom at the Toronto Ski Club.
Top performers from this event will represent the province at the Mars Canadian Juvenile Championships in March.
David Ghent-Kyle led the Ski Runners on the boys side with a ninth place finish in a field of 86 in a combined time of one minute and 12.58 seconds. Ghent-Kyle's run times of 37.54 seconds and 35.04 combined to finish behind winner Braden Long of Georgian Peaks, who finished in a time of 1:10.75.
Greg Moser finished 18th, Josh Dugas 57th and Graeme Hutchison 60th while Alex Moser suffered a fall on his second run.
Kaitlyn Fitzpatrick led the girls side with a 14th place finish in a field of 79. With runs of 36.55 seconds and 37.02, Fitzpatrick combined to post a time of 1:13.57. Beaver Valley's Christine Fisher captured first with a time of 1:10.78.
Jennifer Payne finished 45th for the Ski Runners while Nora-Beth Saunders claimed the 61st position. Gillian Scott fell during her second run.
On Monday, Ghent-Kyle, who sat in third after the first run, led the boys with a fifth place finish in a time of 1:27.38 behind the leader William Lampe of the Caledon ski club, who posted a time of 1:26.57.
Greg Moser finished 29th, Dugas 50th, Alex Moser 67th and Graeme Hutchinson 68th.
Fitzpatrick finished 17th in a time of 1:29.73 while Scott placed 20th with a time of 1:30.30. Payne placed 50th and Saunders 60th.
The Ski Runners will now training at Georgian Peaks on Tuesday in preparation for Wednesday's Super Giant Slalom race. The racers will then compete the Slalom on Thursday and Friday.
