Ski racers from across Ontario take over Searchmont this weekend

The Searchmont Ski Runners, in partnership with Searchmont Resort, are welcoming U14, U16, and U18 racers competing this Thursday to Sunday. 

Competitors from all across Ontario will participate in the Slalom, Giant Slalom, and Super G events, and have the opportunity to attend the Mealey Speed Camp taking place Monday to Wednesday in preparation of the races, the club said in a news release.

The Mealey Classic Invitational, proudly presented by Village Media, is an annual event named after local ski legend and Sault Ste. Marie Sports Hall of Fame inductee Brian Mealey, who coached the alpine program for over 40 years. 

The Searchmont Ski Runners is a registered not-for-profit that develops and administers Alpine ski race programs for youth between the ages of 6 and 18. 

"Our dedicated athletes train rigorously both on and off the hill to gain the skills and experience needed to compete at the OCUP level," the club said.

Searchmont Resort is a premiere ranked regional training and recreation facility with high-quality mountain terrain, amenities, events, and entertainment just a short drive from Sault Ste. Marie. 

The resort will be open for the weekend, giving visitors an opportunity to watch the races while enjoying a great day on the hill.
