While many of us are enjoying the warm late-summer weather, local ski racers are planning ahead for an exciting season on the snow-covered slopes.

The Searchmont Ski Runners (SSR) announced yesterday that 13 athletes have been selected to represent the Northern Ontario Division (NOD) team for Alpine Ontario.

The team serves as a pathway for athletes from Northern Ontario to train and compete at the highest levels of racing, the ski club said in a release.

"After a 15-year hiatus, the team has been re-established due to the high performance of athletes coming out of Northern Ontario in recent years," the local club said.

Several of the selected SSR team athletes have family members that have competed with NOD, and they are excited to continue the tradition.

Notably, Gord Acton and Bill and Bob Real were members of NOD who went on to race the national level.

SSR said members selected to NOD team are:

U14 Female
Maëlle Acton
Andi Annett
Kassandra Real

U14 Male
Benjamin Campbell
Daniel Fraser
Lucas McMaster
Bobby Real

U16 Female
Elinor Bateman
Maelee Lesnick
Cathryn Porpealia

U16 Male

Emmett Kreps
Landon Phillips
