School Board launching new Alliance Academy

The Algoma District School Board is launching Alliance Academy, which will be an expansion of its Hockey Canada Skills Academy to include three additional sports.

The Algoma District School Board is launching the ADSB Alliance Academy.

The academy is looking to build on the Board's Hockey Canada Skills Academy with the new academy including three additional sports - basketball, football, and soccer.

The academy will launch in September 2025.

"This ADSB Alliance Academy is a cross-city opportunity for all genders entering Grades 9 and 10, who attend our three secondary schools in Sault Ste Marie (Korah, Superior Heights and White Pines)," an ADSB release noted. "Students will access eligible bus routes in the morning to take them to the Alliance Academy of their choice. Students will then be transported back to their home school for the afternoon via an ADSB lunch-time shuttle."

The academy schedule will include:

  • Semester 1 of the 2025-26 school year (September 2025 to January 2026
    • Basketball - housed at White Pines
    • Hockey - housed at the John Rhodes Community Centre
  • Semester 2 of the 2025-26 school year (January to June 2026
    • Soccer - housed at Korah and the Northern Community Centre
    • Football - housed at Superior Heights

The goal of the academy is to "engage students in innovative experiences and to help them learn and improve individual skills and tactics in basketball, football and/or soccer."

Students entering Grade 9 or 10 next year are eligible to apply for the Alliance Academy during the course option selection process ion the coming weeks.

A family information night will be held on Feb. 11 at the White Pines auditorium to discuss the academy further with presentations beginning at 6:30 p.m.
