Local dancers from the newest dance studio in Sault Ste. Marie, Dance Core Inc. finished off their first competition season with a bang. Twenty-five competitive students travelled to Huntsville, Ont. and North Bay, Ont. to compete against various studios in two very prestigious dance competitions; Candance and the View Dance Challenge.
At both competitions, all the competitive numbers (including solos, duets, trios, small groups and large groups) scored marks ranging from 89.5-94.5 in various dance disciplines throughout both competitions.
At the Candance competition in April, the students received many special awards including: Powerhouse Award (Jr/Sen Large Hip Hop Group), Minipops Award (Novice small group), Stomp Award (Jr/Sr Large Tap Group), Lovely Lines Award (Jr small lyrical Group), Personality Plus Award (Carlie Seccariccia), Attitude Award (Khira Goodine), Infectious Groove Award (Alyssa Luciani).
Seven overall high awards were awarded to:
10th place overall solos (Mia Iachetta)
9th place overall small groups (Something New – Jr Jazz)
7th place overall small groups (Snake Charmer – Sr Lyrical)
10th place overall large groups (Low – Sr Hip Hop)
1st place overall large groups (Criminal Intent – Sr Jazz)
2nd place overall lines (Na Na Na – Jr/Sr Tap)
1st place overall lines (Gaga – Jr/Sr Hip Hop)
At the View Dance Challenge in May, the dancers once again hit the stage with a bang and were awarded:
1st place overall trios (Abby Dellavalle, Kendra Ricard, Thea Iachetta)
3rd place overall pre-teen large group division (Na Na Na - Jr/Sr Tap)
2nd place overall pre-teen large group division (Criminal Intent – Sr. Jazz)
All students will be showcased Sunday, June 2 at 1:45 p.m. for their first annual recital titled “Clearly”.
