Sault Thunder takes Sudbury soccer tourney

The Sault's Under 18 girls soccer team rolled through the Sudbury Panhellenic Tournament over the weekend.

The girls took on Orillia's Ramara Rockets in the first game and coasted to a 10-0 win on four goals from Danielle Seaton, two from Katie Larue and singles from Kayla Zeppa, Laura Didonato, Robin Koskela, and Tina Vagnini. Kirstie Mancuso was awarded MVP for the Sault side.

In the second contest, the Sault prevailed 3-0 over the Sudburnia Wildcats. Larue contributed two goals in the first half and Seaton added the insurance goal in the second half. Most valuable player recognition went to Emily MacPherson for her strong defensive showing.

The third game saw a 4-0 score in favour of the Thunder. Again Larue had two goals against the Sudbury Panhellenic Strikers. Seaton and Koskela also scored. Robin Koskela took the MVP honours. Meghan Brazil and Erica Aceti shared in the shutouts.

Up against Sudbury's Valley East, Katie Larue scored the lone goal in a 1-1 tie to round out pool play. Larue was chosen game MVP.

In an exciting final against the Panhellenic Strikers, the score remained 0-0 after regular and overtime periods. The Sault squad took the championship on penalty kick scores by Seaton, Koskela, Mancuso and Zeppa. Kayla Zeppa took the MVP tribute for the final game.
