Sault Ice Hawks savour yet another winning weekend

Four local teams took part in Guelph ringette tournament, two came home with gold

Four teams from the Sault Ringette Club invaded southern Ontario this past weekend to take part in the Guelph Ringette Association Tournament, with three teams coming home with medals.

The U12A Ice Hawks won gold medal with a decisive 5-1 final win over their rival of the year the Dorchester Dragons, the local club said in a release.

The 12As went 3-0 in round robin play to earn a bye into the finals.

Their next tournament will be here in Sault Ste. Marie March 22-24 during the North East Regional Championships, hosted by the Sault Ringette Club. Teams from across the region in various age groups will take part.

The U14B Ice Hawks also brought home gold, picking up a 4-2 win over Waterloo in the finals. They finished their round robin in first place with a 2-0-1 record. Their next tournament will also be the North East Regionals.

The U14A Ice Hawks' streak of three straight tournament wins came to an end as they came home with a hard fought silver. The U14As finished the round robin in second place with a 2-1-1 record. They were able to beat Forest 5-3 in the semifinal before dropping the final to a strong Mitchell team 6-2.

Their next tournament action will be the Ringette Ontario Provincial Championships March 14-17 in Waterloo.
