Sault athletes shine at NOSSA in cross-country skiing

21 local athletes will compete in the OFSAA Nordic Skiing Championship from Feb. 23-24 just outside of Peterborough

This past Thursday, local athletes representing all four Sault high schools competed at the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association Championships (NOSSA) for Nordic skiing in North Bay.

Sault athletes had excellent results as 21 out of 48 athletes qualified for OFSAA (Ontario Championships).

Superior Heights student Kate DeBeer was a standout after winning a gold medal in the junior girls open division.

The White Pines senior boys team also qualified for OFSAA by winning a silver medal in their race.

Cross-country ski convenors Shane Dunne, Kevin Magill, and Greg MacLachlan would like to thank the ADSB, HSCDSB, and the Soo Finnish Nordic Ski Club for their support of high school kids getting outside in the fresh air, enjoying the woods, and enjoying the thrill of competition.

The 21 qualifying athletes will compete at OFSAA this Thursday and Friday in Lakefield, Ont. near Peterborough.
