A resilient group of Soo Greyhounds pulled out a much needed win on Wednesday night at the Steelback Centre.

Playing with aggression and jump, the Hounds took a 1-1 tie into overtime before capturing a 2-1 victory over the Sarnia Sting in a shootout.

On the final shootout attempt, Dustin Jeffrey deked Sting netminder Sebastian Dahm and slid the puck past the sprawling keeper for the win.

The victory ended a two-game losing slide and served as a good beginning to a three-game homestand that continues Friday night against Windsor. Game time is 7:30 p.m.

The Greyhounds jumped out to a quick start. With their legs going early, the Hounds applied an aggressive forecheck on the Sting that created several scoring chances. But Dahm was a rock for Sarnia in goal and foiled the Greyhounds for much of the contest.

After a scoreless opening period, Michael Quesnele gave the Hounds a 1-0 lead 53 seconds into the second frame as the local product stepped across the blue line and wired a quick shot over Dahm.

The Sting answered back 36 seconds later as Steven Stamkos beat Kyle Gajewski in the Greyhound goal.

With nothing settled after 60 minutes of regulation time and five minutes of overtime, the teams headed to a shootout.

Gajewski stopped all three Sting shooters including the final attempt that had to go to the video replay official. Cody Thornton and Jiri Tlusty were denied by Dahm for the Hounds.
