Region's top swimmers will make waves in the Soo this week

The three-day event begins Friday evening

The Sault Surge Aquatic Team will be hosting swimmers from 10 clubs around the region this weekend at the John Rhodes Community Centre Pool.

The Dave Kensit Memorial Championship meet will run from Feb. 7-9. Last year's event had over 200 swimmers competing.

The 2024 North Eastern Ontario Region champion, Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club, will be in attendance defending the regional championship banner with clubs from Timmins, North Bay, Kapuskasing, Kirkland Lake, Temiskaming Shores, Valley East, Nickel City, Cochrane, and Sturgeon Falls also attending the meet this year, a news release said.

Racing gets started Friday with a session for swimmers aged 11 and over beginning at 5 p.m. 

Preliminaries for swimmers 13 and older are set for Saturday at 8:30 a.m. with athletes hoping to advance to the finals session Saturday evening at 6:30 p.m. Twelve and under aged athletes race in a timed final session that starts at 1 p.m.

Preliminaries for swimmers aged 13 and over on Sunday are scheduled for 8 a.m. A session for finals for 13 and older swimmers along with a timed final session for swimmers aged 12 and younger is scheduled to start at 12:30 p.m.
