Anthony Posteraro has taken another step toward his goal of playing professional football.

Around 1 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, the Edmonton Eskimos scooped up the local kicker in the fourth round of the 2005 Canadian Football League College Draft.

Picked 31st overall, Posteraro can become a valuable commodity in the CFL as a Canadian kicker. With the league having a limited import rule, teams prefer to seek American talent at other positions.

Posteraro will now battle veteran imcumbant Eskimo kicker Sean Fleming for a position in training camp.

Locally, Posteraro shined as a punter and place kicker in high school with the St. Mary's Knights before handling the dual role with the Sault Sabercats and Sault Steelers. Posteraro recently finished up his college career at Graceland University in Iowa as a punter.

Posteraro was named Graceland's special teams MVP and was also voted as the second team punter in the Heart of America Athletic Conference in 2004. Posteraro averaged 40 yards per punt this season, connected on one punt for 66 yards and placed 14 of his 36 punts inside the 20 yard line.
