Oilers vs. Canucks Game 7 has plenty of Hounds connections

For die hard Soo Greyhounds fans, tonight's big game between the last two Canadian teams standing in the Stanley Cup playoffs features some familiar faces

The last two Canadian teams still skating in the Stanley Cup playoffs are squaring off tonight in a must-win Game 7 — and if you’re a die hard Hounds fan, you already know the Canucks/Oilers series features some familiar faces.

The list includes two former captains of the Soo Greyhounds and two retired stars now in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

On the blue line for the Edmonton Oilers is former Hounds defenceman Darnell Nurse, a popular ex-captain who played his entire OHL career in Sault Ste. Marie.

Behind the Oilers bench is another legendary Hound: four-time Stanley cup champion Paul Coffey, now an assistant coach for Edmonton.

On the opposing side, the Hounds’ connections are all on the coaching staff.

Vancouver Canunks head coach Rich Tocchet served as Greyhounds captain in the early 1980s, while assistant coach Adam Foote — whose #5 hangs from the rafters at GFL Memorial Gardens — was a star in the Sault in the early 1990s.

Game 7 starts at 9 p.m. Enjoy the reunion.
