Oh Captain! Greyhounds unveil leadership group ahead of tonight's opener

Fourth-year defenceman Caeden Carlisle is captain for the 2024-25 season

The Soo Greyhounds have named Caeden Carlisle as team captain for the 2024-25 Ontario Hockey League season.

Carlisle is a fourth-year defenceman who recently returned from the Pittsburgh Penguins rookie camp. His 2023-24 campaign was a career best, when he was named the team's 'Unsung Hero.'

The Greyhounds, who open the regular season at home tonight against the Saginaw Spirit, also announced four alternate captains: Justin Cloutier, Andrew Gibson, Marco Mignosa and Brady Martin.

Cloutier, a first round draft pick in 2021, has appeared in 204 career regular season games with the Greyhounds and had a 42-point season one year ago before being named the team’s ‘Player’s Player’.

Gibson, who was just returned from the NHL’s Nashville Predators camp, is entering his third full season with the Greyhounds. A native of Lasalle, Ont., Gibson was recognized last season on the OHL Coaches Poll as Best Shot Blocker and one of the Best Defensive Defencemen in the league.

Mignosa, comes into his fourth season for the Greyhounds and had 53 points last year. Originally selected in the second round of the 2021 OHL Priority Selection, Mignosa was last year’s Most Improved Player on the team.

Martin, taken in the first round of the 2023 draft enters this season fresh off winning a gold medal with Team Canada at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and recorded 28 points in his first season with the Hounds.
