North Stars win third straight Gold Puck title

The Soo North Stars won the Gold Puck Tournament in dramatic fashion in Waterloo this afternoon over the host Waterloo Wolves with a 2-1 shootout victory.

The Soo North Stars won the Gold Puck Tournament in dramatic fashion in Waterloo this afternoon over the host Waterloo Wolves with a 2-1 shootout victory.

The Stars were ahead by one at the end of the first period and held on the same advantage during the second. Early in the third period, Waterloo tied up the score and it stayed that way until the end or regulation.

That set up a five minute 5-on-5 sudden victory period, with the scored still tied after five minutes. The teams then reduced to 4-on-4 for five minutes before another five minutes was put on the clock and the teams reduced to 3-on-3.

In the shootout, Jerry Petingalo scored to win the game. Matt Amadio scored the other goal assisted by Kurtis Travaglini and Brett Thompson. Thomas Gravelines was in goal for the win.
