North Stars take game one

The Soo North Stars captured game one of the Great North Midget League championship series on Saturday night at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Trailing 1-0 after one period, the North Stars scored goals in the second and third periods to edge the Sudbury Nickel Capitals 2-1.

Brad DiCandia and Dan Vernelli scored for the North Stars while Ryan Dube picked up the win in goal. Mark Baskcomb replied with a goal for Sudbury.

Game two in the best-of-five series goes Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Rhodes.
