The Soo North Stars have played like one of the finest midget clubs ever assembled and the team is continuing to prove that theory.

After cruising through the Great North Midget League with only four losses in 45 regular season and playoff games, including two regular season overtime losses, the North Stars have taken that winning flavour to the National Midget Hockey Championship Regional Playdowns in Belleville.

After hammering the host Quinte Devils 8-1 in their tournament opener on Monday, the North Stars handled the highly respected Waterloo Wolves 4-1 on Tuesday afternoon to carry a perfect 2-0 record through two days of competition.

Michael D'Agostini, Tyler Gendron and Michael Sharp recorded a goal and an assist each to pace the North Stars past the Wolves. Matt Caria added the other marker.

The North Stars sit two points behind the Gloucester Rangers, who stand at 3-0. The locals hold a game in hand on the Rangers in the seven-team round robin tournament. The two teams will meet on Wednesday at 2 p.m. for an early showdown of unbeaten teams.

Elsewhere on Tuesday, Gloucester beat the Markham Waxers 3-1, the Greater Kingston Predators whipped the Toronto Marlies 9-2 and Gloucester edged Quinte 3-2.

In other games on Wednesday, Toronto battles Waterloo at 8 a.m., Greater Kingston plays Markham at 11 a.m. and Quinte at 5 p.m. while Toronto plays Markham at 8 p.m. to close the day's events.

The round robin will conclude on Friday with the top four teams advancing into Saturday's semi-finals. The medal games are scheduled for Sunday.
