The two-time defending Waterloo Gold Puck Tournament champion Soo North Stars seem to be sniffing out a third.

On Friday, the Great North Midget League leading North Stars opened the tournament with two wins including a 7-2 decision over the Cumberland Barons and a 6-2 victory over the Niagara Falls Thunder.

In the win over Cumberland, Jerry Petingalo notched a natural hat trick plus added a fourth goal and an assist. Luke O'Brien, Matt Amadio and Mike Rivard scored once and added an assist each. Jarrett Burton and Kevin Smith assisted twice each while Justin Hogsden picked up in the win in goal.

Against Niagara Falls, Anthony Colizza scored twice with singles going to O'Brien, Amadio, Brett Thompson and Petingalo. Chris Hales picked up two assists with Amadio and O'Brien adding one each. Thomas Gravelines recorded the win.

The North Stars play two more games on Saturday beginning at 11:45 a.m. against the Kitchener Jr. Rangers. At 4:30 p.m., the North Stars suit up against the Windsor Jr. Spitfires.
