North Stars capture third straight GNML championship

For the third consecutive season, the Soo North Stars are champions of the Great North Midget League. On Saturday night in Sudbury, the North Stars defeated the Nickel Capitals 5-2 to sweep the best-of-five championship series 3-0.

On Saturday night in Sudbury, the North Stars defeated the Nickel Capitals 5-2 to sweep the best-of-five championship series 3-0.

Adam Pyymaki led the North Stars with two goals, Brad DiCandia added a goal and an assist while singles went to Brent Perlini and Trevor McNutt. Derrek Coccimiglio recorded three assists.

The North Stars will now advance to the Ontario regional championships hosted by the North Bay Trappers April 3-9.
