Motocross racers ready to roll at Runway Park this weekend

From 3-year-olds to 'seasoned vets,' Airport Road event features categories for all ages

The community is being urged to check out a hidden gem of an event in the Sault — the upcoming race weekend at Runway Park.

Organizers say it's a family friendly event that also lets you enjoy the great outdoors.

This weekend, Sept 14 and 15, features a two-day motocross race event, with categories for all ages.

The weekend will feature beginners as young as 3, advanced younger riders, and "seasoned vets" with some in their 60s, the race weekend's organizers said.

There are also the ever popular electric bike races.

Signup is on site from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m., with practice at 9 a.m., and racing starting at 10 a.m. both days.

The following weekend Sept. 21/22, Runway Park will bring  back the snowmachine Grass Drags where fans can "watch the sleds tear up the grass instead of the snow."

Riders come from all over for this two-day event. Saturday is for the pro classes and Sunday is for amateur races.

Food on the Fly food truck will be there for both events serving up burgers, poutine and more.

The last motocross race weekend of the season is Oct. 5/6.

Runway Park is at 573 Airport Rd.

More information can be found on the park's social media pages: Facebook @runwaypark and Instagram @runwaypark705.
