The Soo Black Sox came home late Sunday night with another championship after winning the Thunder Bay wooden bat tournament over the weekend.

The Black Sox went into Sunday with a perfect 3-0 record before dropping a 3-0 decision to the North West Slam on Sunday morning. Tyler Wilson pitched three innings and struck out three before being pulled due to fatigue due to pitching the previous day. Andrew Toni came in for the fourth inning ad gave up an unearned run in the fourth and two more unearned innings in the fifth.

The Black Sox gave up three runs on just two hits and committed four errors in the loss. Nick Moon and Rico Castro had the only two Black Sox hits in the loss.

The Black Sox managed to get into the tournament championship with the best record where they faced the Thunder Bay Mountain Hawks. The locals defeated the Mountain Hawks 6-5 in extra innings.

Jake Yukich got the start and had some control problems early one, walking the bases loaded in the first inning before a fly out ended the inning. The Black Sox took the lead in the bottom half of the inning when Moon was hit by a pitch, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored on a ground out by Castro.

The Black Sox put up three runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead while Yukich settled down and retired the side in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. In the sixth Thunder Bay scored three runs after a pair of extra base hits, a hit batter, and a single. With runners on second and third and the game tied, Castro came in to retire the next three hitters to keep the game ties.

In the eighth inning Thunder Bay got a leadoff single and the runner came around to score on a wild pitch later in the inning to give the Mountain Hawks a 5-4 lead. In the bottom of the inning Kyle Diotte and Wilson led the inning off with back-to-back walks. Ryan MacDonald attempted to sacrifice the runners over but a wild throw by the pitcher to first led to Diotte scoring from second and the Black Sox having runners on second and third with one out.

Chris Buonomo was intentionally walked to set up a possible double play ball but Jacob Lake hit a fly ball to right field, scoring Wilson and giving the Black Sox the tournament victory.
