A new face will be behind the bench for the Algoma University Thunderbirds Men’s basketball program this fall as Thomas Cory, long-time Men’s Basketball Coach, will be leaving the program to assume head coaching duties with the Nipissing Lakers Men’s varsity team located in North Bay, Ont.

Cory, who has served as coach of the Thunderbirds since 2006, successfully led the team in the transition from Ontario College Athletics Association (OCAA) competition to their current participation in Ontario University Athletics (OUA).

“I have truly enjoyed my time with the Algoma University Thunderbirds and I’m more than grateful for the support and opportunities provided to myself and my family by the University over the years,” said Coach Cory.

“I would personally like to thank all the staff and every former and current player and coach who have contributed to the success we have had over the years. Sault Ste. Marie will always be home and we will miss the basketball community along with the friends and fans who have cheered us on over the years.”

“We thank Coach Cory for the great contributions he has made to our basketball program over the last 12 years and wish him the best in his new role at Nipissing.  We will start our head coaching search immediately to continue taking our men's basketball program in a positive direction,” notes Dave Trudelle, Director of Student Experience with the University.
