Locals return from Ontario synchronized swim championships

Waterloo hosted the 2005 Ontario Tier Championships for Synchronized Swimming with a strong field of local swimmers in attendance.

Waterloo hosted the 2005 Ontario Tier Championships for Synchronized Swimming with a strong field of local swimmers in attendance. Over 600 swimmers from across the province attended the competition, which was held May 26 - 29, including members of the Sault "Y" Synchro Club. The Junior Tier 1 swimmers included Katie McPhee, Samantha Mortimore, Danica Desjardins, Taylor McAllister, Samatha Servant and Sarah Gaines while the Senior team, Tier 4, were represented by Meagan Dutchak, Dominique Valliquete, Ila Porter & Kelly Powshik.

In the figure portion of the competition, the juniors all placed in the top 50 percent with Katie McPhee placing seventh overall in Tier 1. The seniors were equally sucessfull in Tier 4, with fifth overall being presented to Meagan Dutchak. In the team swim, the juniors placed 11th in the province and the seniors ninth. The public will have an opportunity to watch synchronized swimming when the Synchro Club hosts a display at the YMCA on Tuesday June 7th starting at 6:30 p.m., featuring performances by the recreational and competitive swimmers.
