Sault Athletics Club Strikes Gold at Upper Peninsula Indoor Track and Field Championships
Impressive Results for Local Runners at NCAA Indoor Track & Field Event
Sault Ste. Marie, MI -- Nick Peters led a five-member Sault Athletic Club contingent at the Upper Peninsula Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, January 28th.
The high-school aged athletes were eager to challenge competitors from Laurentian University, Northern Michigan University, Track North Athletic Club and Lake Superior State University at the Arbuckle Student Activity Centre.
Peters put in an outstanding performance to grab first-place in the men's 55-metre sprint. Both Nick Peters and teammate Jeff Tremblay blasted threw the prelims, qualifying for the event finals with times of 6.72 sec. and 6.66 sec. respectively.
In the championship round a very focused Peters brought home the gold in 6.52 sec. while Tremblay finished 5th with a timing of 6.82 seconds.
Michael Martens gold-medaled in the 600-metre (1:37.2) contest. Jessica Nanne sprinted her way to two bronze medals, finishing 3rd in both the 55-metre (7.55 sec.) and 200-metre (27.60 sec.) events. John Harvey endured the grueling pace of the men's 3000-metre pack to finish a solid 9th.
