The Sault Ice Hawks U14 squad got off to a winning start Thursday evening at the 2025 Ringette Ontario Provincial A Championships being held in Sault Ste. Marie, March 13 to 16.
The local girls dominated the Etobicoke Stingers, skating to a 6-2 victory at the Northern Community Centre.
All local eyes will be on the Ice Hawks U14 team as it is the only Sault team at the tournament that includes 42 entries from across Ontario competing in divisions ranging from U14 to 18 and over.
The Sault Ringette Club, in partnership with Ringette Ontario, is hosting the 2025 Ringette Ontario Provincial A Championships.
Games will be played at the Northern Community Centre, the John Rhodes Community Centre and Rankin Arena.
An enthusiastic hometown crowd gathered at the NCC to cheer the U14 girls to victory.
The teams will play a round-robin tournament before the semifinals and finals are held over the weekend.
“They're so jacked. They're super pumped. They're playing really, really well. The pressure's not getting to them at all and they're just playing their game,” said Chelsea Clingen, Ice Hawks coach speaking to SooToday after Thursday’s game.
“Everyone's contributing so well and they all know their jobs and they all just keep each other lifted up. That team was sometimes getting a little bit rough but we kept playing our game and just stuck to it so I’m proud of them for that,” Clingen said.
