The Sault's top female high school athletes were honoured at the annual Associated Canadian Travellers Awards Banquet Thursday night at the Marconi Club.
White Pines' Amanda Evans and Korah's Shannon Clement were both presented with the Percy Bedford Award as female athlete of the year.
Due to the double cohort, the ACT distributed two awards this year to the OAC graduating class and the grade 12 graduates. Evans won the OAC honour while Clement is a 12th grade graduate.
Individual sport winners included White Pines' Victoria Koskenoja for cross-country, Sir James Dunn's Meg McQueen in volleyball, St. Basil's Tara Paluzzi in track and field and Mount St. Joseph's Julia Colizza in basketball. Korah's Nicole Beauchamp won the badminton award and Lindsay Miners given the curling honour.
*** WOMEN'S HOOPS:
In the lone Primo Pizza Women's Summer Basketball League game from Thursday night, Sault This Week defeated Sault College 47-37. Jen Perugini led the winners with 28 points while Amanda Sicoly added 14. Top Sault College scorers were Becky Methot with 10 points, Katie Healey with eight, Amy Houser with six and Erica Nethery with six.

The Soo Minor Football Association kicks off their season with four games at Queen Elizabeth B Field on Sunday.
In Bantam, the Firefighters meet Scholars Education Centre at 10 a.m followed by Tingrins and Brody's at 2:30 p.m. Tyke match-ups include Sports Gold and Clean Gear at 11:30 a.m. followed by Brody's and Rome's Your Independent Grocer at 1 p.m.
