Local skaters medal at Skate Canada Northern Ontario championships

In February LSFSC skaters will compete again at Festival of Stars Competition in the Sault

The 2017 Skate Canada Northern Ontario Sectionals event took place at the Delaney arena in Thunder Bay on Nov. 4 and 5, 2016.  

The LSFSC coaching team and Board of Directors is very proud of all eight skaters who competed this past weekend: Emilie Vezina, Lilia-Anne Pelletier, Breanne Derochie, Jordan Derochie, Hanna Martin, Yvonne Barnes, Cassie Grenier, and Olivia Nero. 

“Congratulations to all of our skaters who achieved their personal best scores and reached their first goals of the season. Our skaters have been working hard to qualify for Provincials or Challenge, for our Pre Juvenile, Juvenile skaters, this is the first competition of two combined before qualifying”, said their head coach and Director of Skating with the LSFSC, Kerry Bain.   

Olivia Nero – Silver, Star 5 with 13.65 points achieving her personal best.
Yvonne Barnes – Silver, Pre-Juvenile Ladies with 19.07 points achieving her personal best.
Cassie Grenier – 4th place Pre-Juvenile Ladies with 15.98 points achieved her personal best.
Hannah Martin – Silver, Juvenile Ladies under 13 with 16.50 points.
Lilia Pelletier – Juvenile Ladies under 14 with 20.68 points achieved her personal best.
Emilie Vezina – 6th Pre Novice Ladies with 23.27 in the short program and 43.32 in the free program, achieving two personal best scores in both programs.
Breanne Derochie  – Gold Pre Novice Ladies with 26.64 in the short program and 50.22 in the Free program achieving a personal best score in the free program.
Jordan Derochie  –  Gold Pre Novice Men with 22.51 in the short program and 45.22 in the free program achieving a personal best score in the free program.

In February LSFSC Pre-Juvenile and Juvenile skaters will compete again at the Festival of Stars Competition in Sault Ste. Marie. The top four skaters out of each event including the Star 5 to Gold will qualify for the Skate Ontario Starskate Championship in Port Colburn On Feb. 17 - 19, 2017.

The Lake Superior Figure Skating Club would like to extend congratulations to Breanne Derochie, Jordan Derochie and Veronique Cloutier for qualifying for the Skate Canada Challenge in Peirrefonds, Quebec Dec. 2, 3 2016.
