Local drivers capture point titles at Kinross

A pair of local drivers wrapped up the racing season at Kinross with points titles

Friday night was season championship night at Kinross Speedpark and a pair of local drivers capped off points titles at the Michigan-based track.

In the ABC Stock Car A-Division, Sault Ont. driver John Carter won the points title, beating out fellow local driver Keenan Spurway by seven points.

On Friday night, Carter was the second quick qualifier with a time of 14.653 seconds and finished third in the four-car dash and third in the feature, which was won by Larry Young Jr.

Dennis Aho and Bob Carson won the divisional heat races.

Prince Township’s Rob Wagner won the points title in the Four Cylinder Division. Wagner finished 11 points ahead of Ken Fewchuk of Sault Ste. Marie.

On Friday night, Wagner was the top qualifier in the division with a time of 17.065 seconds.

Fewchuk won the four-car dash and picked up a heat race win.

Rebecca Fewchuk of Sault Ste. Marie finished second in the feature. R.J. Korff won the feature while Cody Beach won the other Four Cylinder Division heat race.

Goulais River’s Buddy Palahnuk won the ABC Stock Car B-Division feature. The veteran driver finished second in the points race behind Todd Nyberg.

Gillian Howard, who won the ABC Stock Car C-Division points title, picked up a heat race win in the B-Division on Friday night. Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Bibeau won the B-Division four-car dash.

In the Modified Division, John Clawson won the points title.

On Friday, Clawson won the four-car dash.

Sault Ste. Marie’s Mark Laakso won the first Modified Division heat race while Roddy Bolduc, also from Sault Ste. Marie, won the second heat race.

Josh Ware won the Modified Division feature on Friday night.

The Kinross schedule now shifts to the final event of the season, set for next weekend.

The final event is the Memorial Invitational in memory of Randy Dewitt and Ted Brooks. The weekend event is set to kick off on Sept. 6.
