For many years, Brandon Lewis has been known as the heart and soul of the entire Sault Steeler franchise.
The talented defensive lineman's mere presence commands respect and Lewis was recognized for his efforts as the team's most valuable player during the Sault Steelers Awards night last week.
The Steelers completed the Northern Football Conference with a perfect 8-0 regular season before advancing to the championship game. The Steelers dropped a 51-0 decision to the mighty Oakville Longhorns in the title contest.
Lewis, who finished ninth in the NFC in tackles and fourth in hurries, was selected based on the respect he commands from players and coaches, his dominating ability and for providing the team the ability to do things that they may not have been able to do without him.
Lewis, an Echo Bay native, has played all his organized football with the club. With Lewis' high school, Central Algoma Secondary School, not fielding a football team, Lewis first played organized football for the Sault Storm in the Ontario Junior Football Conference and has suited up every season since.
