Korah, St. Mary's, St. Basil sweep hoop doubleheaders

The Korah Colts, St. Mary's Knights and St. Basil Saints all won their respective junior and senior double headers in high school girls basketball play on Tuesday.

The Korah Colts, St. Mary's Knights and St. Basil Saints all won their respective junior and senior double headers in high school girls basketball play on Tuesday.

In the senior division, Larissa Graham poured in 12 points and Liza Turpin 10 as the Korah Colts defeated the Bawating Braves 43-36 in overtime at Korah. Stephanie Thayer led Bawating with 16 points while Kristen Timusk added 10.

At St. Mary's, the Knights used 11 points each from Trisha Mazzotta and Andrea Palombi to defeat the Sir James Dunn Eagles 49-44. Ashling McWilliam led the Eagles with 19 points while Janine Olthius scored eight.

At Mount St. Joseph College, Heidi Jaaskelainen's seven points and Lara Stilin's six led the unbeaten St. Basil Saints past the Royals 60-28. Jessica Stone with 10 points and Jessie Mancuso with seven led the Mount offense.

In the junior division, Korah defeated Bawating 44-27. Sara Fortais scored 10 points and Katie Antler nine for the Colts while Amanda Whitmell with eight points and LaToya Busque with six replied for the Braves.

Kira Favaro scored 12 points and Brittney Denneny six as St. Mary's edged Sir James Dunn 32-30. Sarah Miller replied with 11 points for the Eagles while Karli Campbell added nine.

St. Basil beat the Mount 43-36 as Courtney Dubas and Adrianna Bruni led the Saints with nine points each. The Royals were paced by Vanessa Chaimbrone with 13 points and Kirsty Mancuso with eight.

Action resumes on Thursday with Sir James Dunn visiting Korah, St. Basil traveling to St. Mary's and the Mount hosting White Pines. Bawating will enjoy a bye. Junior games begin at 4:15 p.m. followed by senior action at 5:45 p.m.
