Korah Colts gallop to dominant win in senior football

A four touchdown performance from Nathan Guizzetti paced the Colts offence

Thanks to a big day offensively from a key member of the roster, the Korah Colts continue to roll in senior high school football.

The Colts remain unbeaten in the senior loop thanks to a 36-7 win over the St. Mary’s Knights Thursday night at Superior Heights.

Nathan Guizzetti led the way for the Colts with four touchdowns on the ground in the first half of the victory.

Just under eight minutes into the game, Korah opened the scoring as Nathan Guizzetti scored on a 98-yard touchdown run. The convert on the play from A.J. Coccimiglio made it 7-0 game.

Guizzetti picked up his second major of the night 1:40 into the second quarter as he ran the ball in from 31 yards out. On the convert, quarterback Zayn Murdoch hit Ethan Carchidi in the endzone for a two-point convert to make the score 15-0 Korah.

Just over for minutes into the second quarter, Guizzetti scored from 12 yards out to extend the Korah lead further. With the convert from Coccimiglio, the Colts took a 22-0 lead.

With 1:17 to go in the first half, Korah made it a 29-0 game as Guizzetti scored his fourth touchdown of the game on a 23-yard run and Coccimiglio hit the convert on the play.

In the final seconds of the half, Murdoch hit Ty Koski for a 25-yard touchdown. The convert by Coccimiglio made it 36-0 through two quarters.

Midway through the fourth quarter, St. Mary’s got on the board as A.J. Romano caught a three-yard touchdown pass from Alex Hayes. Micah Cuglietta hit the convert on the play for the Knights.

Guizzetti finished the day with 180 yards rushing on seven carries and fourth touchdowns for Korah while also grabbing four tackles defensively.

Murdoch completed three of 12 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown.

Koen Manchulenko paced the Colts defensively with 8.5 tackles.

Jarett Dewar ran the ball 15 times for St. Mary’s for 97 yards offensively while Cole Rivet caught a pair of passes for 22 yards.

Starting quarterback Matti Tucker completed five of nine pass attempts for 44 yards and an interception for St. Mary’s while Hayes completed two of three pass attempts for 10 yards and a touchdown.

Darion Pucci had 3.5 tackles for the Knights while Brayden Luzzi added three tackles in the loss.

Korah improves to 4-0 with the victory while the Knights fall to 2-2.

In the junior game, which saw flags thrown on both sides throughout the opening half and much of the game overall, Korah blanked St. Mary’s 13-0.

After a scoreless opening quarter, Korah got on the board first as Ryder Strachen hit a 26-yard field goal midway through the second quarter to give the Colts a 3-0 lead.

With 91 seconds to go in the half, Lukis Joy-Stoycheff punched the ball in from three yards out to make it 9-0 Korah heading into the half.

St. Mary’s conceded a safety just under three minutes into the third quarter to make it an 11-0 game for the Colts.

With just over four minutes to go in the fourth quarter, the Knights conceded a second safety to make it 13-0 Korah.

Joy-Stoycheff finished the day with 48 yards rushing on 12 carries while Gevin Grisdale caught a pair of passes for 31 yards.

Defensively for the Colts, Michael Marshall had four tackles while Max Fuselli had 3.5.

On the defensively side for St. Mary’s, Dominic Cavaliere had 6.5 tackles. Wesley Tait added six tackles for the Knights.

Korah remains unbeaten at 4-0 while St. Mary’s is 2-2.

The week four schedule continues on Friday night as Superior Heights faces White Pines in both junior and senior action.

In week five action, Superior Heights will Face St. Mary’s on Thursday night with Korah taking on White Pines on Friday night.

All games are at Superior Heights with junior games kicking off at 4:45 p.m. and the senior games getting underway at 7:30 p.m.
