Knights record fourth consecutive shutout

After surrendering 14 points to the Korah Colts in week one, the St. Mary's Knights have concluded the High School Football League regular season with four consecutive shutouts.

Despite soggy conditions at Rocky DiPietro Field, the Knights' offense continued to roll in a 44-0 win over the Bawating Braves on Friday night.

The victory gives the Knights the regular season crown with a 5-0 record.

The loss for Bawating (2-3) means the Braves must now face the St. Basil Saints (2-3) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in a tiebreaker to determine who will earn fourth place and a date with St. Mary's in one semi-final next Friday night.

The White Pines Wolverines (2-2), who conclude the regular season on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the Colts (0-4), have clinched third place and will meet the second place Sir James Dunn Eagles (3-2) in the other semi-final on Thursday.

In the Knights win, receiver Mark Devuono caught touchdown passes of 31 and 22 yards from quarterback John Mullin while Mike Babcack hauled in another major from nine yards out.

Mullin ran in touchdowns from 18 yards and one yard and Chris Lebel added another from 37 yards.

Jeff Pellegrino kicked three converts, Brian Denneny and Mike Esson scored two point converts and Giancarlo Perra kicked a 55 yard punt single.

Lebel led the rushing attack with 197 yards on 17 carries while Jeff Greco added 76 yards on 12 carries. Mullin completed six of 12 passes for 95 yards with Devuono catching three balls for 70 yards.

Defensively, Perra had 5.5 tackles and half a sack while Mark Thorburn added five tackles.

For the Braves, who were hald to 93 yards of offense, Dan Vaz rushed for 39 yards on 11 carries while quarterback Mike Storozuk completed four of nine passes for 38 yards.

Geoff Olar recorded 5.5 tackles, Greg Derasp five and Tyson Derasp three and a sack.

St. Mary's used touchdwons from Curtis Travaligni and Craig Rushon in a 15-0 win over the Braves in junior division action on Friday afternoon. Ricky Lamon booted an extra point and ran in a two point convert.
