The St. Mary’s women’s soccer did something over the weekend that no other Sault-based girls high school soccer team has done before.
St. Mary’s captured silver at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations girls AA soccer championship in Cobourg, Ont.
In the tournament final, the Knights faced Thomas A. Blakelock of Oakville in what was a defensive matchup between unbeaten teams.
Blakelock eventually picked up the provincial title by beating the Knights 5-4 in penalty kicks.
St. Mary’s went unbeaten through round robin play in the tournament before picking up a win over Tecumseh in the quarter-final and Hamilton’s Sir Winston Churchill in semifinal action to advance to the final.
