JR. HOUNDS WIN ANOTHER

The Soo Jr. Greyhounds continued their solid play Saturday night at Memorial Gardens with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Sudbury Northern Wolves.

The Soo Jr. Greyhounds continued their solid play Saturday night at Memorial Gardens with a convincing 8-1 victory over the Sudbury Northern Wolves.

Winners of 12 in a row heading into the game the matchup looked to be a good one and was until the Hounds broke the game open with a surge in the third period.

The Jr. Hounds built up a 2-0 lead before the first period was half over as Mark Evans and Josh Leddy scored to give the home club the early lead. The Jr. Hounds held a slight edge in the shot department as well outshooting the Northern Wolves 11-9 although both teams were solid in the period.

In the second period both clubs continued their solid play and despite a late period goal by Joey Coccimiglio, the teams were fairly evenly matched after 40 minutes.

The third period was where the Jr. Hounds showed their offensive prowess. At the 2:59 mark of the period Jeff Rainville scored goal number 36 to give the homeside a four-goal cushion. At 12:16 of the period Matt Restoule scored to cut the lead to 4-1, but four goals in slightly under four minutes buried the Northern Wolves as Jake Critchley, Adam Campbell, Chez Gioia and Matt Hall scored to seal the 8-1 victory for the Jr. Hounds.

Shane Bellini stopped 18 shots in the win for the Jr. Hounds while Danny Battochio and Wade Wilson, who came in for Battochio after Gioia's goal at 16:28 of the third period combined to stop 32 of 40 shots in the loss.

Next action for the Jr. Hounds is tonight when the defending champion Rayside Balfour Sabrecats are in town. Start time for the contest is 7 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.
