Jacobs splits at Masters to sit at 2-1

Brad Jacobs moved to 2-1 at the latest Grand Slam of Curling event on Thursday after a pair of games on the day.

Competing in North Bay, Ont. at The Masters, the Jacobs rink, which also features third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, picked up a 7-3 win over Calgary’s Kevin Koe on Thursday evening in the final draw of the day.

With the teams tied at three through five ends, Jacobs blanked the sixth end before scoring four in the seventh end to seal the win.

Jacobs opened the day with a 5-4 loss in an extra end against Glenn Howard’s team, which is being skipped this week by Scott Howard.

Howard made a draw in the extra end to pick up the victory,

Howard scored a pair with the hammer in the opening end to take an early lead.

After the teams traded singles in the third and fourth ends, Jacobs scored a pair in the fifth end to tie the game at three.

Howard took a 4-3 lead with a single in the sixth end.

Jacobs blanked the seventh end before scoring one in the eighth end to send it to an extra end.

The Jacobs rink will wrap up round robin action on Friday afternoon against Peter De Cruz of Geneva, Switzerland.

The Masters is the first Grand Slam of Curling event of the season.

The tournament features 15 men’s and 15 women’s teams split into three pools of five teams each during round robin play. The top eight teams move on to the playoff round, which begins on Saturday afternoon.
