Jacobs remains unbeaten at provincials

Brad Jacobs will head into the third day of the Northern Ontario Curling Association provincials with a 4-0 record after a pair of wins on Thursday.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, picked up wins over a pair of Sault rinks on day two.

Jacobs opened the day with a 9-2 win over fellow Sault Ste. Marie rink Nick Lemieux in six ends.

Jacobs jumped out to a 2-0 lead with the hammer in the opening end.

After Lemieux got on the board with a single in the second end, Jacobs tacked on two more in the third.

Leading 4-2 through four ends, Jacobs broke the game open with three in the third before sealing the win with a steal of two in the sixth.

In the evening draw, Jacobs faced Charlie Robert, another Sault-based rink.

After the teams traded singles in the opening two ends, Jacobs took the lead for good with three in the third end.

After Robert cut the lead to 4-2 in the fourth end, Jacobs scored a pair in the fifth end.

Robert picked up a single in the sixth end.

Jacobs would blank the next two ends before scoring a pair in the ninth end to cap off the scoring.

The Jacobs rink returns to action on Friday morning against Sandy MacEwan of Curl Sudbury in the morning draw before wrapping up the day against Jeffrey Brown of the North Bay Granite Curling Club.

The Lemieux rink, which includes third Jacob Reid, second Andrew Berg, and lead Dan Lemieux wrapped up action with an 8-4 win against Brown.

Lemieux stole three in the opening end and led 5-1 through three ends. After Brown scored one in the fourth end, the two teams traded deuces in the fifth and sixth ends before Lemieux scored one in the seventh to make the final 8-4.

The Robert rink, which includes third Matthew Hunt, second Stephen Meunier, and lead Joshua Vanderburg, opened action on Thursday with a 7-6 loss against Brown in the afternoon draw.

The two teams traded singles in the opening two ends.

Brown took a 3-1 lead with a pair in the fourth end, but Robert would tie the game with a single in the fifth and a steal of one in the sixth.

Brown retook the lead with a pair of seventh, but Robert scored three in the eighth to lead 6-5.

After scoring one to tie the game in the ninth end, Brown would steal one for the win in the tenth end.

Robert returns to action on Friday afternoon against Ryan Sayer of the Horne Granite Curling Club in New Liskeard before wrapping up the day in the evening draw against Lemieux, who is set to face Mike Badiuk of the Geraldton Curling Club in the afternoon draw on Thursday.

Round robin action wraps up on Friday.
