Assured of a playoff spot heading into the day, Brad Jacobs and his team from the Community First Curling Centre is now playing the waiting game.
The team wrapped up round robin play on Friday at the Champions Cup, the final event on the Grant Slam of Curling schedule, with a 7-4 loss to Brad Gushue of Newfoundland and Labrador.
With the loss, the Jacobs rink, which features third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, concludes round robin action with a 4-1 record in the six-day event in Olds, Alta.
The teams traded singles in the opening two ends, Gushue scoring with the hammer in the opening end before Jacobs came back with one of his own in the second.
A pair by Gushue in the third gave the Maritimes-based rink the lead for good.
Jacobs got one back in the fourth, but Gushue made it 4-2 with a single in the fifth before stealing two in the sixth to go up 6-2.
Jacobs scored a pair in the seventh before Gushue capped off the scoring with a single in the final end.
Team Jacobs is now awaiting the final results of Friday’s remaining round robin games to find out their quarter-final opponent.
Quarter-final and semifinal games are set for Saturday afternoon and evening with the tournament final slated for Sunday.
