A big sixth end lifted Brad Jacobs into the playoff round at the latest Grand Slam of Curling event this week in North Bay, Ont.
The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second E.J. Harnden, and lead Ryan Harnden, booked a playoff spot at The Masters on Friday thanks to a 7-3 win over Peter De Cruz of Geneva, Switzerland.
The win left the Jacobs rink with a 3-1 round-robin record.
With things tied at three heading into the sixth end, Jacobs scored four in the end to pick up the win.
Jacobs opened the event on Wednesday with a 6-5 win over Scott McDonald of Kingston, Ont. before splitting games on Thursday.
The Jacobs rink began action on Thursday with a 5-4 loss in an extra end against Scott Howard of Penetanguishene, Ont. in the morning draw before beating Calgary’s Kevin Koe 7-3 in the evening draw.
The Masters field is comprised of 15 men’s and 15 women’s teams that are split into three pools of five teams each.
The top eight teams on each side qualify for quarterfinal action, which is set for Saturday afternoon.
Jacobs will face Matt Dunstone of Regina in the quarterfinal. Dunstone also finished the round-robin with a 3-1 record.
