Just days after suiting up in his first Ontario Hockey League exhibition game over the weekend, Ethan Montroy has officially signed with the Soo Greyhounds.
The 5’11”, 175-pound winger was the Greyhounds third round pick in the 2021 OHL Priority Selection and left a mark during training camp, earning a spot on the team heading into exhibition action.
“Every time he was on the ice, he seemed to have an impact on his shift, whether it was physically or driving for a puck or making a great play,” Greyhounds general manager Kyle Raftis said at the conclusion of camp. “He had an impact every time he was out there. Those are the players that are always tough to find.”
Montroy got his first taste of game action with the team on Sunday afternoon in an exhibition game against the Sudbury Wolves at the GFL Memorial Gardens.
After selecting Montroy in June, Raftis called the 16-year-old “a guy who demands the puck when he’s on the ice.”
“He’s got great edge work,” Raftis added. “He can really find soft spots. He loves scoring goals and he’s someone who really drives plays.”
Montroy is the third member of the Greyhounds 2021 draft class to have signed with the club.
The team signed top pick Justin Cloutier and second round pick Marco Mignosa in late-July.
