The Soo Greyhounds are finding a way to battle back into the race for first place in the Ontario Hockey League’s West Division.

Thanks to a 3-1 road victory over the Sudbury Wolves on Tuesday night, the Greyhounds move to within six points of the division-leading Plymouth Whalers. The win also moves the Hounds to within one point of the Sarnia Sting for second in the tightening West Division.

The Greyhounds have now won six of their last seven games with a shootout loss to Ottawa on Saturday as their only blemish. They are on of the OHL’s hottest teams in their last 10 games with seven wins and a shootout loss. The Greyhounds last loss in regulation time was a 4-1 defeat at the Hands of the Guelph Storm in Guelph on Nov. 12.

Josh Godfrey paced the Hounds with a pair of second period goals, 1:14 apart, and added an assist in the win. Cody Thornton also scored in the win as he opened the scoring 11 minutes into the opening frame.

Sault Ste. Marie native Matt Dias broke Kyle Gajewski’s shutout bid with a power play goal at 13:46 of the third period.

Greyhounds goaltender Kyle Gajewski stopped 37 shots in the win while Kevin Beech stopped nine of 12 shots before being pulled in favour of Michael Swick after Godfrey’s second goal. Swick stopped all 24 shots he faced.

The win improves the Greyhounds record to 15-11-0-3 while the Wolves fall to 13-11-2-2.

Next action for the Hounds will be on Dec. 1 when they host the Kitchener Rangers. The Wolves host the Sarnia Sting on the same night.
