The Soo Greyhounds saw an unsuccessful road trip come to an end after settling for a tie.
The Greyhounds blew an early 3-0 lead and skated away with a 4-4 draw against the Brampton Battalion in Ontario Hockey League action on Sunday afternoon.
In the three-game road trip, the Greyhounds, who are barely clinging to a Western Conference playoff spot, claimed only one of a possible six points. The Greyhounds opened with a hard fought 3-1 loss to London on Thursday before being blanked 5-0 by the Erie Otters on Friday.
On Sunday, the Greyhounds built the early lead with goals by Reg Thomas on the power play, Jeff Carter and Aaron Lewicki in a span of 1:43 in the middle of the opening period.
Chris Clayton brought the Battalion back into game with a late first period goal before Adam Henrich cut the lead to one at 3-2 with the only goal in the second period.
After Tyler Kennedy scored to put the Greyhounds ahead 4-2 midway through the third period, the Battalion stormed back with two late third period goals by Ryan Oulahen to send the game into overtime.
Despite enjoying a full two minute power play in the extra period, the Greyhounds left Brampton with a tie.
Henrich added three assists in the game for the Battalion while Oulahen recorded an assist for a three-point night.
Jakub Cech made the start in goal for the Greyhounds and stopped 37 of the 41 shots fired his way. The Greyhounds had 40 shots on Battalion goaltender Kevin Couture.
The Greyhounds extend their record to 21-24-2-1 for 45 points for a share of third place in the West Division and a share of the eighth and final playoff spot in the conference with the surging Windsor Spitfires.
The Greyhounds return home to begin a three-game home stand on Friday against the Peterborough Petes at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens. The Barrie Colts visit next Sunday at 2 p.m. before the Plymouth Whalers visit on Wednesday, January 28th at 7 p.m.
In other OHL action on Sunday, Frank Rediker and Corey Perry scored once and added an assist each to lead London to a 4-1 win over Owen Sound while Tyler Haskins scored twice to lead Toronto St. Michael's past Sudbury 3-1.
Corey Locke scored three times to pace Ottawa past Kingston 6-4, Daniel Paille recorded the hat trick as Guelph doubled the Kitchener Rangers 6-3 while Dan Turple made 26 saves and Sault native Chris Hulit recorded two assists as Oshawa blanked Sarnia 2-0.
