The Greyhounds took another step towards an OHL playoff spot on Friday, posting a tidy 6-2 win over the visiting Windsor Spitfires before more than 2,800 fans at the Gardens. Three goals in the third period was the difference for the Soo, which began a five-game home stand on a positive note. Overage winger Matt Herneisen triggered three goals and added an assist to lead the Hounds, who vaulted ahead of the idle Owen Sound Attack back into sixth place in a tight Western Conference. Herneisen, an off-season acquisition by Hounds' coach/general manager John Vanbiesbrouck from the Peterborough Petes, now has 25 goals on the season. Sean Stefanski and Scott Dobben had three-point games for the Soo. Stefanski scored his 17th and 18th goals on the season, while Dobben added his 14th to go with a pair of assists. Overage goalie Adam Munro -- who came over with Dobben in a trade with the Erie Otters earlier in the season -- made 29 saves in the Hounds' net. The Greyhounds, who are home to the Barrie Colts in a 2 p.m. game on Sunday, are now 7-4-2-2 since the New Year and have 13 games remaining in the regular season. The win was the second in a row for the Hounds, who are 4-1-1 in the month of February.
