Hounds battle Wolves to a draw

The Soo Greyhounds gained a point on the road from a tough Sudbury Wolves team on Friday night.

Backed by a two goal effort from Jeff Carter, the Soo Greyhounds battled the Wolves to a 3-3 tie in Ontario Hockey League action front of 4,347 fans at the Sudbury Arena.

The Wolves grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first period as Jonathan D'Aversa scored his first of two goals on the power play.

Carter answered back 2:36 into the second period with a power play goal of his own to tie the game at 1-1.

After D'Aversa gave the Wolves a 2-1 lead with another power play goal, Carter answered with his second power play goal. Zack Stortini send the Wolves into the second intermission with a 3-2 lead on a power play goal.

Tyler Kennedy notched his second goal of the season for the Greyhounds shorthanded 5:24 into the third period to salvage the tie.

Chris Lawrence added a pair of assists for the Hounds while Ryan McDonough recorded three assists for the Wolves and Kyle Lamb added a pair.

Kyle Gajewski kicked aside 37 of 40 shots in net for the Greyhounds while Patrick Ehelechner stopped 33 of 36 shots for Sudbury.

The Greyhounds continue their three-game road trip on Saturday night against the Barrie Colts at 7:30 p.m. The Hounds then move over to Mississauga for a 2 p.m. start on Sunday.

Next home for the locals is on Wednesday when Sudbury visits the Memorial Gardens at 7 p.m.
