The St. Basil Saints were eliminated from the provincial championship but the team can take solace from the fact that the team fell to the eventual tournament champions.
After advancing to the quarterfinal round, the fifth ranked St. Basil Saints were eliminated by fourth ranked Sarnia St. Christopher 50-37 on Friday night at the Ontario Federation of Schools Athletic Association Girls AA Basketball Championships in North Bay.
Aine Coccimiglio led the Saints with eight points while Kelly Killoran led St. Christopher with 16.
St. Christopher went on to claim the OFSAA championship with a 57-41 win over sixth ranked Ottawa St. Paul in the final on Saturday night. Killoran led the winners with 17 points while Jyllian Grosse replied with 23 for St. Paul.
Lord Elgin High School from Burlington, the top ranked team heading in, claimed the bronze medal while second ranked Scarborough Mother Theresa won the consolation championship.
Earlier, St. Basil advanced into the quarterfinal round with a 56-30 win over Toronto Dundas' Parkside. Rachel Cobean scored 19 points to lead the Saints while Renata Adamczyk replied with 14 for Parkside.
St. Basil opened the tournament with a 35-30 win over Cambridge's Monsignor Doyle on Thursday.
*** OFSAA "AAA":
The top ranked St. Catherines Govenor Simcoe defeated second ranked Oakville St. Thomas Aquinas 59-50 to claim the OFSAA AAA basketball championship in Sudbury on Saturday night.
Sudbury LaSalle, the Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) champions, lost in the quarterfinal round to Govenor Simcoe.

The boys will now take centre stage as the High School Boys Basketball League regular season opens on Tuesday.
Korah visits White Pines, Bawating travels to Sir James Dunn while St. Basil plays host to St. Mary's in triple-header action.
The midgets tip-off at 4:15 p.m. followed by the junior game at 6 p.m. and the senior contest at 7:30 p.m.
